A WOMAN'S vision to bring a brand-new festival to Malvern is bearing fruit- and she will use it to champion the town's top talent.

The Severn Wells Festival will be coming to the district on Saturday, August 17 and is the brainchild of Julie-Anne Goode.

After volunteering at other festivals such as Mappfest for a decade, Miss Goode decided she wanted to showcase local musical talent as well as arts and crafts and small businesses.

The resulting festival will now take place on the lower part of Malvern Link common opposite the fire station.

The Severn Wells festival will be raising cash for St Michael's Hospice as well as raising awareness of Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and Farmer's lung.

She has enlisted the help of an army of people to help her, including her good friend Zoe Philips, who runs a festival called Breathfest COPD/Farmers Lung in Herefordshire, and Lyn Smiley.

Both Miss Goode and Miss Philips have lost loved ones to COPD, a group of lung conditions that cause breathing difficulties, in the past.

They are also raising money for New Hope in Worcester, which is a charity working with children with disabilities and complex needs.

All funds raised will be split between them both and the festival will be honouring all the people lost to COPD and cancer in a memorial throughout the day.

The group has been busy raising cash for the event, taking part in fund-raisers at the Newtown Club, Beauchamp Arms and the Bakery Inn.

Their next fund-raiser for the festival will be an all-day barbecue on  Saturday, July 6 at the Newtown Club.

There will also be a bouncy castle, games and crafts followed by an evening with live music from Jon Bushell and The Banderos and Teresa Myatt.

Those who want to have a stall at the festival won't be charged a pitch fee but will be asked for a donation.

Contact the Severn Wells Festival on Facebook if you want to volunteer or donate raffle prizes.

She said: "I have wanted to do this for years, but now I have finally got the courage to go ahead with it.

"It's been a lot of hard work, but I have a fantastic group of people supporting me.

"I think it will be euphoric when I see the first guests arriving and the first band take the stage- I'm really excited."
