A convenience store chain has launched a summer karaoke competition.

SPAR's latest campaign, Make Me A Champion, introduces SPARaoke Saturdays, which gives customers the chance to show off their singing talents while shopping, all in the name of winning thrilling prizes.

Running from Saturday (June 22) to Saturday, July 13, the competition will span across 100 stores in England and Wales.

The competition invites customers to listen out for an iconic song played in-store.

Upon hearing it, customers are encouraged to head towards the checkouts, grasp the microphone and belt out the tune.

By singing along for at least 30 seconds to the song, shoppers will be in with a chance to win their entire shopping basket for free, and even score a month's worth of groceries.

A spokesperson for the convenience store said: "We know that most champions belong on the world sporting stage, but we also know that champions secretly live within local communities.

"So, whilst you may not be getting a medal this summer, you can definitely feel the rush of being your local SPARaoke champion with SPAR."

Aimed at enhancing customer experience and injecting an air of excitement into the stores, SPARaoke aims to distract from the summer's sporting tensions, as the nation fixates on the Euros, the Olympics and the Paralympics.
