Dementia care worker in Leigh Sinton amongst the best

Consuela Platica works as a senior carer at Waterside Care Home in Leigh Sinton and has been a carer for more than six years. 

She has reached the top ten at the Dementia Care Awards for the best Dementia Care Home Worker. 

Miss Platica said: "I am very very happy to have made it into the top ten for this award. 

"I love my job and I'm really involved and it's a pleasure to do.

"I want to do everything to help my residents, my favourite thing is to make them happy. 

"If I get one smile per day then that's enough for me."

The awards ceremony will take place on June 13 at The Royal Lancaster Hotel in London. 

Unfortunately Miss Platica will not be able to attend as she will be on holiday in Romania.

Miss Platica continued: "My manager nominated me and I had a phone call and an interview but I did not expect to get top ten. 

"I like doing this job so much, I now hope that I can make the top three. 

"I don't know how I would celebrate if I was to win, I'm just waiting to see how it goes. 

"I think I would buy a cake and share it with the residents."

Waterside Care Home - Minister Care Group currently provides care to 41 residents and provides a range of activities.

Miss Platica said: "I love going around and talking to people.

"I talk to a lot of residents who are bedbound, I talk to them, they can understand me, they can't speak but from their facial expressions I know they can understand me. 

"I talk, read and sing to them. 

"I also help with the main activities in the lounge, we sing, dance and play dominoes as well as man many other activities."

Penny Cottrill, registered home manager at Waterside Care Home said: "This award recognises care home workers who help enhance the lives of those living with dementia and make a real-world difference. 

"It looks for impact, compassion, empathy, innovation and involvement of people affected by dementia and positive outcomes. 

"Congratulations Consuela, we are all so proud of you and we can't think of a more deserving person to win this award."
