HOME owners were left trapped upstairs after a car driven by a drunk driver crashed into their house in Worcestershire.
The crash happened near Tenbury Wells yesterday (Wednesday) where the car, a light blue Skoda Fabia, came off the road and crashed into a house.
The impact destroyed a staircase and left the resident trapped upstairs.
The driver and passenger fled from the scene but police, together with a fire and ambulance crew, extracted the home owners safely and located both occupants.
Both were arrested by officers for fleeing the scene and for being found to be over the drink drive limit.
West Mercia Police said: "Patrol officers from Malvern attended a Road Traffic Collision near Tenbury Wells where a vehicle crashed into a house, destroying a staircase and trapping the homeowners upstairs.
"The cars occupants made off from the scene, but along with Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service & West Midlands Ambulance Service, we ensured the homeowners were safely extracted, and officers from Team A Patrol quickly located the cars occupants a short distance away.
"They were arrested for making off from the scene and being over the prescribed limit of alcohol."
