The Worcestershire criminals put behind bars recently

A FORMER church leader and hairdresser, who cut the hair of several celebrities, was jailed for sexually assaulting a young boy at a Malvern church nearly 40 years ago. 

David Burley of West Malvern Road, Malvern, has been convicted of three indecent assaults on the same boy in the 1980s. 

Among the celebrities Burley used to cut the hair of were Bernard Weatherill, former Speaker of the House of Commons, TV pundit Jeremy Paxman and Mark Pougatch, ITV’s football host.

The 76-year-old who served on the deanery synod and as a church warden at Holy Trinity Church in Malvern until recently was jailed for 28 months at Worcester Crown Court.

Andre Passaro, 38, of Winchombe Drive, Worcester was jailed for two years, suspended for 18 months, for his role in a County Lines drug dealing gang which brought Class A drugs into south Worcestershire from the West Midlands.

Duncan Lawson, 44, of Arosa Drive, Malvern, was sentenced to two years three months’ imprisonment, reduced to one year, 11 months for his guilty plea at the start of the trial and suspended for 18 months for his part. 

And Syed Ahmed, 37, of Offmore Road, Kidderminster, was sentenced to two-and-a-half years’ years imprisonment, reduced to one year eight months for his early guilty plea and suspended for 18 months. 

The gang were convicted of dealing more than 14kg of cocaine to an estimated 2,000 users in the county between January 1, 2018, and December 15, 2020.

Gang members Syed Alom, 35, of Highfield Road, Rowley Regis; Shakir Ali, 35, of Sycamore Road, Wednesbury; Mohammed Amilrul Islam, 30, of Blythswood Road, Birmingham were all sent to jail immediately.

PERVERT Jamie Lattimer, caught again in possession of indecent photographs of children, was able to walk free out of Worcester Crown Court having narrowly escaped going to prison.

The 35-year-old was warned by a it was last chance and if he commits any further offending he can expect to go to prison. 

Lattimer's phone was analysed by police which revealed he had two category B images, the second highest level identified within the sentencing guidelines, downloaded onto the device between September 26 and November 2, 2020.

Police also found a further seven images at category C level, downloaded between the same dates. 

The judge announced he was jailing Lattimer for 30 weeks - but said the sentence would be suspended.
