The council has proposed changes to car park times and charges for the first time in 12 years.

Malvern Hills District Council's proposal includes increased stay-time along with a price hike for some parking services as part of a public consultation.

Changes come as a response to tackle high inflation rates, ensuring the council can maintain crucial services like waste and recycling collections, planning services, business support, housing and public toilets, among other amenities.

One notable proposed change that traders have been advocating for is an extension to the maximum waiting period from two to three hours in Malvern town centre car parks at Belle Vue Terrace, Edith Walk, Grange Road North and South.

An increase to three hours would also apply to vehicles showing a valid disabled person’s blue badge across all council parking sites.

Anticipated adjustments to cost include a £1 increase for a 24-hour stay car park charge, taking it from £3 to £4.

The change would affect various locations, including the Council House, Victoria Road, Hanley Road, New Street, Priory Road North, Priory Road South, and Teme Street car parks.

Evening operating hours tariff (4pm to 8am) is also projected to rise from £1.50 to £2 across all car parks.

Additionally, the cost of Resident Annual Two Hour Permits may rise from £25 to £30 per year.

However, the council plans to maintain the rates for the popular 50p one-hour and £1 two-hour tickets.

These will carry forward as some of the lowest parking charges offered in the county.

Cllr John Gallagher, portfolio holder for resources at the council, said: "I understand that these proposals may be both welcome and unwelcome to drivers across the district.

"The council hasn’t reviewed some of these car park charges since 2012 and the amendments will help continue to provide important services to residents.

"We are also keeping the one and two hour tariffs unchanged on every car park, at the cheapest levels anywhere in Worcestershire."

Residents are urged to submit any objections before the deadline at 12pm on Thursday, March 28.
