A COUNTY councillor has thrown her support behind female footballers who are eyeing success.
Malvern Town Football Club’s women’s first team has gone from strength to strength, winning seven out of nine matches so far and looking at the possibility of promotion at the end of this season.
Beverley Nielsen, county councillor for Malvern Langland, has been proud to support the Midwest Counties League Division One table-toppers with a £3,000 sponsorship contribution from her Worcestershire County Council divisional funds.
Cllr Nielsen said: “It’s been a real privilege to become involved in Malvern Town Football Club since my election earlier this year.
“I’m so impressed by the women’s first team, how they conduct themselves and their focus during matches which has delivered such a great track record.
“They are now top of their league having played nine matches, winning seven, drawing one and losing just one ahead of a crucial game against Bromsgrove Sporting FC on January 7 which I shall certainly be attending to cheer them on!
“There are many people who make this possible - manager, coaches, medical support, players and their families, all their supporters and their wonderful mascot Lily Harvey.
“It’s a privilege to be associated with Malvern Town Football Club and I’d like to send my best wishes to everyone involved for Christmas and the festive season and I’m very much hoping 2024 will be a spectacular year.”
Club chairman Chris Pinder said: "Beverley's interest and support of the club, and the women's team in particular, has been fantastic.
"Bev has contributed to the running costs of the women's team which specifically has helped to deliver a new 'female-fit' playing kit for the 23/24 season.
"It's lovely to have Bev around on a match day lending her vocal support to the Malvern players."
With the team looking to gain promotion this season and to continue progressing as a club in the years ahead, manager Mark Taylor said: “It’s really great to be a part of the progress of Malvern Town women’s team.
"We’re really proud of the team, the club and the progress that we have made in such a short period of time. We only look to kick on from here!
"We’re grateful to all that follow and sponsor the team, just like our local councillor Beverley Nielsen. Her support of kit has made a huge difference to the entire group and we’re extremely thankful."
