A Malvern chamber choir is to perform at Tewkesbury Abbey with an internationally renowned tenor.
For more than a quarter of a century, Aldwyn Voices has presented a Sequence of Music and Literature for Advent and Christmas in Tewkesbury Abbey.
This year they will be joined by the tenor soloist James Gilchrist in Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols.
Composed for the Three Choirs Festival at Hereford in 1912, the Fantasia is founded on traditional English carols collected by Williams.
In the early 20th century, he visited the villages and fields of Herefordshire, Somerset and Sussex collecting the marvellous melodies sung by Gypsies, villagers and field workers, recording them on a wax cylinder and in his notebook, before they were lost forever.
Aldwyn Voices is conducted by Adrian Lucas with Carleton Etherington, organist of Tewkesbury Abbey, as soloist and accompanist.
Admission is by programme at the door £10, on Sunday, December 10 at 3pm.
