PLANS are afoot to replace cut-down trees in Upton upon Severn that were seen as "a risk to both pedestrians and passing vehicles".
The work on the black poplars by the River Severn opposite Warner's Supermarkets
required the B4211 Hanley Road to be closed.
Upton district and county councillor Martin Allen said he had been contacted by "several concerned residents" and it was a "quite sad" situation.
Cllr Allen is now striving to find a way forward to replace the three or four fallen trees which he was told were diseased.
He said: "The trees have now been lopped and pruned. Some have had to go. It's quite sad.
"Several concerned residents contacted me about the loss of trees and the amount of work.
"I enquired with the council about why this work had to be done.
"It seems that some trees were found to be diseased and either dying or dead.
"Others had branches damaged by past storms. All were classed as a risk to both
pedestrians and passing vehicles.
"Some of the work was severe but necessary. I am actively looking at how I can get new trees planted.
"It's always sad to see trees go. If four have gone, I want to double up and plant eight new trees."
Cllr Allen added the work was put back to half-term with the road being a main
thoroughfare for several schools.
