Latest on Malvern's Wilko as administrators release timeline

Wilko's High Street store in Worcester and Droitwich's store are to close for the final time this month it has been announced. 

But a date for the store in Church Walk has yet to be announced despite the administrators saying all stores will close.

On Monday (September 12) it was announced by administrators the Wilko name was set to leave all UK High Streets as 400 stores across the UK will close by early October. 

Administrators PWC says Worcester's store will close on Sunday, September 17. The final day for employees will be Tuesday, September 19. 

Droitwich's store in St Andrew's Square will close on Thursday, September 21, with final day for employees on Friday,  September 22.

Redundancies are likely for all 12,500 staff nationally at the family-owned business.

CLOSING: The Wilko closing in Worcester High Street (Image: Newsquest) The billionaire owner of HMV, Doug Putman, had hoped to keep up to 300 Wilko shops open, but that bid collapsed due to the rising costs of the deal earlier this week.

A message was posted on the Spotted Droitwich group from Wilso staff which said: "Just to let the good people of Droitwich know that Wilkos will be closing its doors for the final time on September 21.

"Please be respectful of the staff who are facing a very unsettling and upsetting time after hearing this news.

"A big thank you to all our loyal customers over the years, from all the staff at Wilkos."

Zelf Hussain, joint administrator, said: "The dedication shown by all team members during this period has been hugely humbling and we are grateful for the patience and understanding they have shown.

"As with those who have already been given notice of redundancy, we will guide and support those team members impacted over the coming weeks through the redundancy claims process.

"We also continue to collaborate closely with relevant agencies and engage with any potential employers to help facilitate a quick return into new employment for those impacted.

There had been some hope last week for  Wilko's Worcester store as it was not on the initial list set for closure - but that hope ended with the latest statement from PWC.

We reported last month Wilko had gone into administration and customers outside the city store spoke of their sadness at the news.

Sue Oxley, 61, of Inkberrow, said when she bought her first house she kitted it out with goods from Wilko, some of which she still had.

"It's awful. This one in Worcester is new and looks lovely.

"What is going to happen to our High Street?"
