Plans to build up to 200 new homes in Malvern have been discussed as a consultation event.

Hallam Land Management is preparing a proposal to build on land at Cales Farm, near the existing Malvern Vale development.

The company, which specialises in getting planning permission for big developments before selling the land to housebuilders, confirmed its plans would be for “up to 200 homes”.

This would be in line with the South Worcestershire Development Plan, which sets out where more than a thousand homes will be built in Malvern over the next 20 years.

A planning application is yet to be submitted to the district council - but Hallam Land Management held a drop-in event at Malvern Vale Community Centre on Monday, July 24.

Residents were invited to “meet the project team and ask questions”.

A spokesperson said there was a reasonable turnout and that the team had received “valuable feedback from residents”.

Readers have been reacting to the plan, with some worried about the effect more homes will have on traffic in the area.

"The junction from Cowleigh Bank to Broadlands Drive and Belmont Road to Cowleigh Bank will now be dangerous once it's completed, unless traffic lights are installed," one person said.

"If they want to put more houses on Cales Farm then the road structure [needs] to be improved."

Another said: "Very soon Malvern will not have a blade of grass to its name.

"I moved away nine years ago because it was getting too big and I have watched the hundreds of new houses go up with horror."

Another commenter said: "We shouldn't be building on ground that is good for prodcuing food but we do need build more housing somehow and somewhere.

"The prices for first time buyers are utterly ridiculous. We should not bemoan our own properties dropping in price because what we need to move onto, downsizing or bigger for a family, will also go down in price."
