People from different traditions will perform alongside each other in a unique choral concert.
Colwall Requiem for Peace is an award-winning setting of the Requiem Mass that welcomes songs from different cultures threaded through choral music with meditations for solo cello.
The audience will hear – and at times participate in – songs of remembrance, hope and kindness, says composer Liz Dilnot Johnson.
The concert will "demonstrate resilience, acknowledging what has been lost and raising awareness of what it means to make a new home in a foreign land".
Liz, said: “I feel passionately about the need for providing a safe haven for those forced out of their homes due to war, famine or other disasters.
"Through working with the different people involved we have shown the positive outcomes that happen when you provide opportunities to create and perform within a safe space.
"We want the audience to hear, celebrate and join with all the different voices coming together for this unique event, sharing in the hopefulness we feel for the future, here in Colwall.”
The augmented choir of St James the Great directed by Peter Johnson will perform alongside Colwall Primary School Choir and children from Talented Ukrainian Children in Malvern.
There will be rappers from South Sudan and a storyteller from Darfur.
Abdullah Tamo will sing Kurdish songs accompanied by his friend Wael playing the saz - a beautiful long-necked Arabic guitar.
And its thanks to a successful GoFundMe campaign ‘Find a Saz for Colwall’ that this will be played for the first time in public.
Ruth Forecast, chair of Malvern Welcomes, said: ‘I am really looking forward to the performance of Colwall Requiem for Peace.
"It is wonderful how Liz brings people together through music in such a creative way. By participating in and sharing music of their different cultures everyone feels valued.
"It is a powerful way of expressing that we are all together.’
The concert will take place this Sunday (July 2) at 5pm at St James the Great, Mill Lane, Colwall WR13 6HJ.
Tickets are free with limited free parking.
There will be a collection to support the project and St James’ Church.
