A GRANDMOTHER who assaulted police officers told a court she couldn't remember committing the offences.

A magistrate told Siobhan Evans she must now work with the probation service to address her binge drinking issues.

Eleanor Peart, prosecuting, told Worcester Magistrates Court police were called to the King's Head pub in Sidbury, Worcester, just before 11pm on April 28 this year.

The prosecutor said Evans, who gave a care-of address of William Tennant Way, Upton upon Severn, was shouting and swearing and flailing her arms.

Miss Peart said: "She wasn't complying with officers.

"After arrest she was slipping the handcuffs off.

"She struck him (PC Benjamin Allwood) to the chest with hands and kicked his right shin."

The prosecutor said, in the second offence at 10.15pm on May 27, police were called to New Street, Upton upon Severn, where Evans was sat on a step looking confused.

"She was extremely drunk, she could hardly stand," the prosecutor said.

"They were encouraging her to go home - she started swinging her arms, shouting and swearing."

Evans connected with the chest of PC Van Rooyen and, after Evans was arrested, police released her thinking she would go home.

But instead Evans came back up to the officers and swung again, hitting the officer in the chest a second time.

Miss Peart said both offences had been similar and her one previous conviction was also of a same nature when Evans assaulted another officer last November.

Evans admitted two assault by beating of an emergency worker charges as well as a public order offence and being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

But while giving her guilty pleas Evans insisted she hadn't been drunk at the time of the offences, adding she couldn't remember them.

Belinda Ariss, defending, said Evans - who has three children and three grandchildren -  had a brain injury and suffered blackouts.

The solicitor said Evans accepted she drank but had said not to excess.

Mrs Ariss added that in speaking to Evans she was not someone who came across as a person who assaulted officers.

Martin Soble, chairman of the magistrates bench, told Evans that although she would probably not accept it they had found the offending had been due to binge drinking.

Evans was given a one-year community order with 40 rehabilitation days which the chairman said he hoped would be used to address her alcohol issues.

Evans was ordered to pay £185 costs and £114 victim surcharge.

The case was heard on Friday, (June 23).
