A MUCH anticipated pump track could be ready to open to the public as early as the autumn, it has been revealed.

In August 2019 Malvern Town Council resolved to take over recreational land adjacent to Adam Lee Children's Play Area in Poolbrook.

In March this year the land was finally transferred to the authority.

A public consultation took place with 83 per cent of respondents saying they were in favour of a pump track being located on this site, with the council later backing the plan.

At the last meeting of the authority at Belle Vue Terrace on Wednesday, (June 21), town clerk Linda Blake provided an update explaining five companies were approached to undertake the building work.

The clerk said four had shown an interest and following an evaluation a preferred company had been selected.

The firm had quoted £79,995 for this work against an anticipated budget of £85,000.

Funding for the track is expected to come from Section 106 funding and Malvern Cycle Sport - which has secured £4,000 of funding from the project.

The clerk said the firm was the only business to arrange a site visit and, as part of its offer, there was an opening event package, tarmac warranty of 10 years and a build time of "four to five weeks".

After councillors unanimously voted for the preferred company to do the work, firm was revealed to be Clark & Kent Contractors.

According to the Shropshire firm's website it is specialists in building tracks, and built the London 2012 Olympic Games BMX Supercross Track.

The clerk added: "All the building is done in-house, and they are open to using local people to supply the raw materials."

The clerk also revealed that, potentially, the work could now be completed in the autumn with hope it could open to the public in November.

But, the clerk stressed, the "sticky point" would be getting planning permission which could potentially delay this timeline.

A planning application is now to be submitted to Malvern Hills District Council for approval before works can commence.
