Plans have been submitted to build 70 homes in a village near Upton Upon Severn.
Developer Kendrick Homes wants to build the homes, which would include “affordable housing”, on land off Saffron Grove in Tunnel Hill.
According to the planning application, the site has already been allocated for housing development in the South Worcestershire Development Plan.
“The proposed development will provide a high quality, sustainable development which will provide significant planning benefits,” the developer claims.
“[It] will positively contribute to the supply of, and on-going need for, housing within Malvern and South Worcestershire where, even by the council’s calculation, their required five-year supply of housing land is extremely marginal.
“The site provides a logical extension to the village of Tunnel Hill, extending the development completed in recent years by Kendrick Homes to the north.
“Proposals relate well to the surrounding area and will be contained by existing and enhanced landscaping along its boundaries.
“The scheme has been sensitively designed to respect nearby residential uses whilst ensuring a quality living environment for future residents.”
The proposal includes plans for a play area, a community orchard and allotments. In all, 40 per cent of the site is earmarked as “green infrastructure”.
Kendrick Homes says 40 per cent of the proposed homes will be “affordable housing” - specifically, there will be 19 “affordable rent properties” and nine “first homes”, which are sold at a discounted rate.

The properties themselves would be a mix of detached, semi-detached and terraced houses, maisonettes and bungalows, varying in size from one to four bedrooms.
“Each dwelling will be equipped with air source heat pumps, PV panels, electric charging points and energy efficient appliances.”
The revised South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP) was made public in September last year and sets out where new homes and key infrastructure will be built throughout the south of the county.
It includes plans to build more than 11,000 new homes in towns and villages by 2041, including 5,000 near Worcestershire Parkway train station and 2,000 at Throckmorton Airfield near Pershore.
