A DAD-of-four drunk driver was caught when he was over three times over the limit.

Valavicius Arunas was ordered to do unpaid work when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court.

Lauren Milichip, prosecuting, said Aranus was caught driving a Citroen C4 near his home in Redland Road, Malvern on Wednesday, April 5.

Arunas was taken to the police station where the evidential sample of breath he gave was 127mcg in 100m of breath - the legal limit being 35mcg.

Arunas appeared at the court on Tuesday, (April 25), admitting a charge of driving a motor vehicle when his alcohol level was above the limit.

Ian Parsons, defending, said Arunas was originally stopped by police at 8.20pm that day because he had no lights on.

The solicitor explained Arunas received a notification that a parcel was available to collect at a fixed time, saying the defendant made the error to go out and collect it.

"There was no unacceptable standard of driving, he had reached home," Mr Parsons said.

"Police officers stopped him just outside his house."

Mr Parson said, due to the high reading, there was a risk of custody for Arunas' offence but said, if that happened, it would make him and his family homeless without the money he provided.

A probation service representative told the court Arunas had told them he was drinking around four cans of beer a day but it was not interfering with his work.

After lengthy deliberations, Carey Leonard, chairman of the magistrates bench, announced they would not jail Arunas for the offence.

Instead, Arunas was handed a 12-month community order requiring him to complete 200 hours of unpaid work.

Arunas was also ordered to do 10 rehabilitation activity requirement days which, the chairman said, would focus on his relationship with alcohol.

Arunas was disqualified from driving for 30 months but he was offered the chance to do the drink-drive awareness course to reduce his ban length.

Arunas was also ordered to pay costs of £135 and victim surcharge of £114.

The defendant's offer to pay the total amount of £249 at a rate of £100 per month was accepted by magistrates.
