Malvern Link station fire is believed to be arson

The Station House is cordoned off at the front of the building, and the entrance from Worcester Road is also cordoned off.

The side of the building overlooking the train station has been badly damaged by the fire, and a police officer is currently guarding the scene.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson: "Police were called by the fire service at 2.25am this morning (Tuesday 7 March) following a fire at a property on Worcester Road in Malvern.

"Following a review of CCTV, the fire is being treated as arson and a scene guard has been put in place. 

"The scene guard includes one of the platforms at Malvern Link train station, which means trains on the line towards Hereford are currently unable to stop at the station."

Train services at Malvern Link Station have not been affected by the fire at the building, which is used as holiday accommodation.

A spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service was called out to a building fire in Malvern Link at 12.16am today (Tuesday).

“The fire involved a two-storey terraced property in Worcester Road, near Malvern Link Train Station, which is used as holiday accommodation.

“Two crews from Worcester Fire Station attended along with Malvern, Upton and the incident command unit from Ledbury.

“All people were accounted for as the fire spread from the balcony to the ground and first floor.

“It was extinguished using two hose reel jets, four breathing apparatus units and positive pressure ventilation.

“The building was 100 per cent damaged by smoke and 20 per cent by fire."

“A fire investigation is ongoing, and the police are also in attendance to guard the scene.”

A lone police car could be seen parked on Worcester Road whilst the police officer remains guarding the train station.

Passengers were shocked to see the damage when they arrived at the station this morning.

A jogger running by the station said: "I had no idea this had happened until I came out for my morning run.

Another passenger waiting for her train said: "I had no idea until I got here but I hope everyone is ok.

“I am glad I can still get my train this morning.”
