A MALVERN music venue has announced plans for a relaunch and a name change.
The Old Con Club, in Church Street, will soon be changing its name to OCC.
A New Year’s Eve party was held to mark the last night of the Old Con Club - with a promise to spill the beans on the relaunch to guests after midnight.
Now the new name has been revealed - and work has already started to transform the venue into what owner Kevin Quaine says will be a “game changer” for Malvern.
“We took over nine weeks ago now and came up with the concept of the last days of the Old Con Club,” said Kevin. “It was a way of saying a proper goodbye to the place.”
The past few weeks have also allowed Kevin and his team to try a number of things that will form part of the OCC offering, including late night openings.
“The name pays tribute to the history of the venue and the logo is inspired by the Malvern Hills,” said Kevin.

“The venue itself will have three distinct areas. At the front will be The Pub, which will be a modern twist on the pub concept.
“We wanted it to complement what’s already here in Malvern so it will be a sports bar including features like a darts board area.”
The biggest room at OCC will be called The Theatre. It is a space that has already hosted fan zones during the World Cup and an awards night for Malvern Theatres recently.
As part of OCC, it will act not only as a nightclub but also as a multi-use venue during the day.
“The third part will be called The Hills Club and will be a first for Malvern,” said Kevin.
“Behind a nondescript door, it’ll be a Speakeasy-style private dining and members club. This will be a very exclusive area offering opulent dining experiences and limited ticket events.
“It’s very exciting, we’re going to make people want to stay in Malvern and not head out to Worcester, Birmingham or Cheltenham.”
The first part of the refurb - The Pub - is due to be completed later this month.
