A MALVERN venue is promising a “reset” starting on New Year’s Day - but is staying tight-lipped about its future plans.
The Old Con Club in Church Street says there will be a new name for the venue and a plan that will bring “many firsts to Malvern”.
All will, apparently, be revealed just after midnight at a New Year’s Eve event called ‘Last Night of The Old Con Club’.
The party, which runs from 10pm to 3am, will also feature Kev Quaine playing disco, house anthems and dance classics, Bethell and Freekey Sounds Takeover.
“The time has come to close this iconic venue, 'Last Night of The Old Con Club' is far from an ending though,” the club said on its website.
“Just after midnight we'll be revealing our plans, and the new name of the venue for 2023. We'll be performing an unbelievable reset on the venue which'll bring many 'firsts' to Malvern.
“Up until the 'Last Night of The Old Con Club' on New Years Eve we’ve a lot to get through, celebrating all that’s been great, in the last chapter of this iconic venue’s story.”
The club’s ‘Last Days of The Old Con Club’ programme of events has been running throughout December and has involved live music, DJs, World Cup football and pop-up street food.
A social media post asking for customers’ requests ahead of next year’s “reset” received a number of replies.
People asked for more regular live music, comedy events, more food pop-ups and even wine tasting got a mention.
The Old Con Club reopened under new management in 2021, with general manager Joe Warriner promising to champion local artists, musicians, charities and businesses.
“As well as arranging a wide variety of events, I’d love local artists to contact me to discuss displaying their pieces on our spacious ‘blank canvas’ walls,” he told the Malvern Gazette.
Before lockdown, the venue had been an events and meeting space called Malvern Radio.
Formerly a Conservative club, it is part of the building that houses Malvern’s post office and Royal Mail sorting office.
