A FORMER launderette in Malvern could be converted into a one-bedroom home if new plans are approved.
The plans are for Patel Launderette, which closed down in August this year, to be converted into a one-bedroom dwelling.
The site, in Albert Park Road, would be converted and extended to create a one bedroom dwelling.
This would include a single vehicle parking space, secure bike storage and refuse bins and an area of open space.
Having closed down this summer after many years in business, the site is currently vacant.
It closed because of declining customer numbers, which made it unviable to continue as a business.
The plans for the site were submitted to Malvern Hills District Council on October 13 and a consultation runs until November 9 this year.
The planning statement submitted to the council said: "The change of use of this building would create a short term benefit to the local economy.
"It would also provide a dwelling whose occupants would use and help to financially support local services.
"The new dwelling would meet the current and future needs of the community by providing much needed housing within Malvern.
"The dwelling would be a small one bedroom property therefore affordable by size.
"It would be suitable for ‘downsizers’ and ‘first time buyers’ alike.
"The proposal would provide a dwelling with appropriate privacy, outlook, sunlight and daylight.
"It should be noted that the proposal is to change the use of an existing building.
"Its overall impact in terms of scale, height and massing to the Albert Park Road frontage would remain as existing."
Another application to turn the laundrette into housing was submitted in June 2021.
Despite the fact there were no objections from the council, the county's highways department or Severn Trent, the applicant later withdrew the application on July 20 that year.
