A COUNTY MP has reacted to Rishi Sunak becoming the country's new Prime Minister.
Harriett Baldwin, who represents West Worcestershire, was speaking after Mr Sunak was named leader of the Conservative Party.
The MP, who backed Penny Mordaunt for the leadership, said it was time for the party and country to come together.
She said: "While I was proud to nominate Penny Mordaunt in today’s contest, she did not make the nomination threshold.
"I am delighted to congratulate Rishi Sunak on becoming our new Party leader and thus our next Prime Minister.
"He has pledged to focus on delivering our 2019 manifesto, helping our NHS recover from the pandemic and standing strongly with Ukraine as it defends itself against Putin’s evil invasion.
"The parliamentary party united behind him today and we will stay united in order to deliver for our constituents."
Mr Sunak became Prime Minister after he secured the support of the majority of Tory MPs in Parliament.
He succeeds Liz Truss, who resigned last week after just 44 days in office.
