NEW plans to turn a former horticultural business into homes have been submitted after the originals were rejected.

Developers want to turn the site, in Halfkey Road, into two new homes.

This is after a previous application for four homes was rejected by Malvern Hills District Council.

The application site is located on the corner of Halfkey Road and Leigh Sinton Road.

It currently contains an existing house, which would be retained, a large greenhouse, a large outbuilding, an access driveway and a lawned garden.

Originally, the site formed part of a horticultural business and included land to the west.

The adjacent land originally contained several glass houses but was sold separately to the main house when the horticultural business closed.

The application was submitted following the refusal of a previous plan for four new homes on site (20/00251/OUT) which was rejected by MHDC and dismissed at a subsequent appeal.

Planning documents say: "The site is located outside of but immediately adjacent to the Great Malvern settlement boundary.

"The application site does not have any of the physical or spatial characteristics of being isolated and access to services and facilities is not limited.

"The future occupants of the proposed dwelling would not be dependent on use of a private car.

"There is opportunity to access shops, services and a range of public transport modes on foot."

When the previous application was rejected, concerns were raised over the size of the site in relation to the number of houses.

In its written submission to the council, Malvern Civic Society said there was a worry about how many houses could be put in the site given its size and shape.

The planning statement associated with the plans highlights MHDC's defeat at appeal over housing at Rushwick.

This appeal showed the council did not demonstrate its five-year land supply, with the decision being quoted in many separate applications since.
