PEOPLE in Malvern offering their homes to Ukrainian refugees have been praised for their efforts.
More than 100 offers have come in from people in Malvern and Wychavon to help women and children fleeing the war come to the area.
West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin said the people of Malvern should be proud, with individuals, businesses and churches all offering their support.
She said: "The sheer volume of people offering to help has been overwhelming, and my team and I are working flat-out to help to chase applications which are being processed by the Home Office.
"The absolute priority is that Ukrainians should get to somewhere safe and countries like Poland have done an incredible job providing a safe haven for refugees.
"Some have plans for an onward destination and some would dearly like to return home and my fervent hope is that this terrible war comes to an end and Putin faces the consequences of this illegal action in an international court.
"But while war continues, West Worcestershire is opening its arms to people who want to relocate here and I am busy both helping with individual applications and the community groups who have come forward to help.
"It is right that we respond positively to this international crisis, and I have raised issues with Ministers to make sure that the process is an uncomplicated as possible.
"West Worcestershire wants to be a good neighbour to our friends in Ukraine and I strongly feel that, as the process is ramped up, we will be able to welcome many more refugees to our lovely county."
Mrs Baldwin also said she was working on more than 100 cases at the moment having spoken to town mayors and religious leaders co-ordinating the efforts of groups lending a hand.
Dozens of local people who have offered to house refugees and the Polish Parliament is also helping smooth the access of Ukrainians who want to come to the United Kingdom.
