WALKERS who want to do their bit to help the humanitarian effort in Ukraine can take part in the Malvern Mayor's Peaks Challenge this year.
On April 30, intrepid walkers from across the county are invited to tackle the seventeen peaks along the length of the Malvern Hills, or alternatively, a shorter route over seven peaks, both in aid of the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
Entry fees start at £7.50 for a child on the short walk, going up to £20 for an adult taking on the longer walk and include transport to the starting point, a t-shirt and medal, plus a rosette for our furry friends that complete the walk.
Starting at Chase End Hill or British Camp, both walks follow the ridgeline to North Malvern Hill and end in the car park of the Mount Pleasant Hotel, where finishers will be presented with their medals.
Mayor of Malvern, Cllr Nick Houghton said: "This is a great chance to take on a fantastic challenge whilst enjoying the beauty of the Malvern Hills and raising money for those that are experiencing conflict within their country and are having to flee, leaving behind everything that they know and own."
The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) brings together 15 leading UK aid charities to raise funds quickly and efficiently at times of crisis overseas.
The Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal is helping to meet the needs of all refugees and displaced people by providing essential hygiene supplies, blankets, and emergency food.
Local companies sponsoring the walk include English Braids - a family-run company specialising in performance ropes and braids, and the Mount Pleasant Hotel - home of the Mulberry Tree restaurant.
Austin & Co, greetings cards, stationery, and dog accessories, have also sponsored the rosettes for all four-legged participants.
