CHRISTMAS is nearly here, and across the region, lights, trees and decorations are going up.

In Upton, a whole-town project saw Christmas decorations made and put up all around the town.

These have been put up by families and businesses around the town to spread some Christmas cheer.

The display was thought up by Reverend Amy Wearing of Upton Baptist Church, who said: "The whole community in Upton has come together on this to spread some cheer.

"We were trying to think up ways we could do something for Christmas as a community while still being covid-safe, so we asked businesses and schools if they could create their Christmas trees to be displayed outside the Pepperpot.

"It is really lovely because each one shows the personality of the people who created it.

"We've had the schools and shops getting involved, we've had the garage decorating their own special one, the Blues Festival has made one, so you really see how strong your community is with things like this."

Among the Christmas trees to be installed, pupils from Pendock Primary decorated theirs with Christmas wishes, most of which were for people to stay safe and healthy over the festive period.

Another of the church's Covid-safe Christmas plans is for 1,000 knitted angels to be placed around the town and given to people. These have been made by residents and friends of the church and will be put in different locations in the town over the next few weeks.
