A COUPLE from Malvern have celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Ann and Alex Worswick celebrated the big occasion last week with balloons and a cake, as well as a cream tea and lunch delivered to them at their home in Malvern.

Mr and Mrs Worswick married on August 20, 1960, moving to Green Lane in Malvern Wells a short while later.

Mr Worswick, aged 85, worked at White’s Electrical in Spring Lane and it was the relocation of the company from London that brought the couple to Malvern in the first place.

Mrs Worswick, aged 81, was a primary school teacher, spending time at Somers Park Avenue School and the pair still live in Green Lane to this day.

She gave up work temporarily when their three children Jane, Ruth and Paul were born. She ran the playgroup in the Wells in the ‘70s and went back to teaching at Pendock and Little Dewchurch when all the children were in school.

Mr Worswick eventually retired as managing director of White’s, having started years before as an apprentice.

They now have three Anglo-American grandchildren, Lucy, Jack and Elyse, and have travelled to Austin, Texas, many times to see them.

The couple have travelled extensively and still cruise today. Mr Worswick is very active in Manor Park Bowls Club and U3A Genealogy.

He volunteers at the Malvern Repair Café fixing electrical items, watches and clocks, and his reputation has spread.

People bring him clocks of all sizes from all over the area to be fixed and it’s not unusual to visit and hear half a dozen clocks chiming in his workspace as he checks if they are keeping time.

He has even fixed the fencing scoring machine that the National Fencing Museum in Hanley Swan bought at a flea market and had never been able to find anyone to fix.

Mrs Worswick has volunteered at the Malvern theatre for years, showing people to their seats, and has the reputation of being the best salesperson when she is in charge of the merchandise area. She plays bridge regularly and spends one morning a week volunteering at the Acorns shop in Barnards Green.

Mr Worswick is also Acorns resident ‘fixer’ and is given all the electrical items to take home, check if they are working and fix them. Along with the clocks, there are often noisy toys going off in the house at all hours.
