NHS chiefs have confirmed no new cases of the coronavirus have been diagnosed today, after a video showed a man wearing a protective suit while emerging from an ambulance at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
NHS chiefs in Worcester and nationally refused to comment on why the man was wearing the suit after members of the public, who saw the man, raised concerns that the activity may be linked to coronavirus.
But a national briefing released at 2pm said there were no positive cases in England today.
A video, circulating on social media, shows the unidentified man getting out of the back of an ambulance owned by West Midlands Ambulance Service.
However, when the Worcester News contacted Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and the Department of Health and Social Care, neither would comment to confirm or deny whether there is a coronavirus case at Worcester’s hospital.
A statement published on the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust website said: "All of our services are operating as usual and patients should not be concerned. If you have a hospital appointment, please attend this as planned."
In the video, a woman wearing a purple top with 'senior sister' written on the back can be seen watching a man in a haz mat suit (hazardous material suit) getting out of the back of a West Midlands Ambulance Service vehicle.
Another woman, wearing a disposable apron and face shield, holds open an orange bag but the video ends before the purpose of the bag can be determined.
Written over the 25-second video by the person filming is the caption: "Hazmat [hazardous material] suits at Worcester hospital. They've blocked people from going anywhere near it."
It is not known when the video was taken.
