A CHURCH has been broken into over the weekend.
Amy Wearing. minister at Upton Baptist Church in Old Road, Upton-Upon-Severn, said: "It's not the nicest thing to have happened but what I've seen after the break-in is a community coming together.
"I've had offers from people wanting to give me items or loan them to the church.
"There's so much love in the Upton community when we launched the community fridge scheme."
The community fridge is based in the chapel of the Old Street-based church and is open every day.
Residents are invited to put in any surplus food they have and select quality food that would otherwise be wasted.
Town councillor Andrea Morgan said: "I'm saddened to learn of the break-in.
"The church and the community fridge do such a fantastic job.
"The amount of food they prevent being wasted is unbelievable."
Sergeant Simon Hallam from West Mercia Police who is part of the Upton safer neighbourhood team, said: “We are investigating a burglary after the church was broken into between 10pm on Saturday (February 1) and 8am on Sunday (February 2).
"Various electrical items and food have been stolen.
"We’re asking anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area over the weekend to get in touch."
