MORE than 1,000 young students from Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire have been weighing up their future options at a careers fair held at Three Counties Showground.

The fair welcomed pupils from dozens of schools and numerous home educator groups based across the three counties. Students were able to learn about a wide range of careers and further education options available to them in the local area.

There were 45 stands on the day which demonstrated an array of careers in different industries such as agriculture, horticulture, technology, healthcare and hospitality in addition to universities, colleges and training providers.

Tessa Warby, shows education executive, said: “This was a great opportunity for young people to learn about a wide range of further education and employment opportunities in the local area.”

Also at the show was the Royal Agricultural University (RAU), based in Cirencester, the official education partner of Three Counties Showground.

One of the new courses the RAU were promoting included the new BSc (Hons) Environment, Food and Society degree, and staff from the university encouraged students to reflect on where their food comes from and the food miles associated with it.

They also looked at entomophagy and whether insects could be the food of the future by examining global diets and national policies on eating insects, including some tasting sessions.

Liam Dowson, associate head of recruitment at the RAU, said: “We were very excited to be at the Three Counties Careers Fair and to meet so many young people who were keen to find out how they can make a positive difference to the world and the environment through their careers.”
