THE latest match in the MUAA calendar was the Derek Evans Trophy, always a popular event for the purists as the contest is float only.
This years event was held on the Avon at Birlingham and was accompanied by very windy conditions which would hamper efforts to present a bait effectively under the float.
Drawn on Peg 29, Neil Humpage took full advantage of the shelter afforded by some bankside willows to take the trophy for the second year running. Fishing on the pole at 13 metres, Neil used maggot or pinkie on the hook over a bed of groundbait, to take a modest net of small skimmers and roach which tipped the scales at 3-10-0.
Second place went to Chris Loveridge who fished a slider float on peg 2 to land some small skimmers for a weight of 1-4-0 Third spot went to Mike Cooper who also employed slider tactics to land a few small perch for 14 ounces.
This Sunday, the club makes its second of three visits to the River Wye, this time the venue is Holme Lacy. If anyone is unsure of how to get there, some members are meeting on Holme Lacy bridge and will leave there at 7.30am to go to the stretch. The draw is at 8am.
Roy Bouston Memorial
NEXT Sunday, October 7, the Roy Bouston Memorial Contest is being held, this year it's being hosted by Hanley Castle AC.
Due to the popularity of this match places need to be booked in advance by contacting Mick Perks on 01684 561777. Tackle vouchers have once again been donated to the prize fund by Ellen from Alan's Tackle.
