MEMBERS of one of Malvern's oldest clubs are celebrating 60 years of old-time and sequence dancing.
The 21 Dance Club has met every week for the past 60 years at the Holy Trinity hall, in Link Top.
Although people have come and gone over the years, the club still boasts an impressive 65 members who regularly meet to enjoy the delights of sequence dancing.
Its name came about because when it was formed in 1947 it had no members under the age of 21. The same holds true today, with members now ranging from 55 to 90.
Chairman Brian Croft, a club member for 45 years, said the secret behind its longevity was a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
"We never turn anybody away and everyone who comes gets treated like they have been here for 20 years," he said. "It's a very good place to meet new people and people have even met at the club and gone on to get married."
The club meets from 7.30-10.15pm every Tuesday and will mark its anniversary on Thurs-day, June 12, with a buffet and dance at Holy Trinity hall.
"To celebrate our 50th anniversary, we went out for a big dinner at the Abbey Hotel, but this time we wanted to do something at the club's home," said Mr Croft.
Although everyone at the club is very proud of reaching 60, no-one is contemplating hanging up their dancing shoes just yet.
"There are not many clubs that keep going this long, and we hope to continue for many more years," said Mr Croft. "One thing for certain is nobody else at the hall has ever had a block booking like us!"
