AN Air Day is being held at Croft Farm, Defford, near Upton, on Saturday June 9, in aid of the Mission Aviation Fellowship and the County Air Ambulance.

This is now an annual event featuring a wide range of visiting private light aircraft flying in under local professional air traffic control.

It also attracts a number of vintage cars and sports cars.

There is no charge for admission but donations towards the support of the two causes are invited.

The visiting aircraft donate their landing fees to them.

MAF is a Christian organisation whose mission is to fly light aircraft in developing countries so that people in remote areas can receive the help they need.

It will be mounting displays, showing videos and offering literature illustrating the range of services it provides and the hazards encountered when flying these missions.

It featured strongly when the Indian Ocean tsunami hit, when its aircraft were the only ones capable of operating in the disaster area.

MAF spent more than two months in the area engaged in flying in food, water, cooking oil and other vital supplies until the local authorities began to take over.
