Once again, thanks to leaders Joy and Phil Bunyan, members of Powick Ramblers plus four visitors, were able to enjoy a delightful walk in the Herefordshire countryside around Wellington Heath (between Colwall and Ledbury).

Starting from the Farmers' Arms, the 15 people, plus dogs Tilly, Digby and Clive headed uphill onto the Herefordshire Trail. On reaching Coddington, the path led through the vineyard to the church with its tall spire.

On uphill to the top of Oyster Hill where the walkers were able to see across Herefordshire towards Marcle Ridge and a different view of the Malverns. The path led downhill past the Hope End estate where the house of Elizabeth Barratt-Browning stood hidden in the woodland.

On arriving back at the Farmers' Arms welcome refreshments were taken and the leaders thanked for a varied though hilly walk in wonderful weather.

The annual meeting of the Friends of St Peter's was held in April and the officers were elected as follows:- Chairman Peter Gedge, Treasurer Nicky Sandy, Secretary Sally Gurney, plus committee Jenny Hill and David Allen. The aim of the Friends was to raise enough money for the churchyard path and garden of remembrance. This has been achieved through funds raised by quizzes and mainly the scarecrow festival (which is being repeated on the weekend of September 8 and 9). Please consider joining the Friends, as for 800 years the building and churchyard have been the focal point of the parish and it is our duty to preserve them.

At the May meeting of Powick Guild, Peter Gedge gave an informative and amusing talk on dentistry which has considerably advanced over the last couple of decades. He told of the change in attitudes as people wish to keep their own teeth with the aid of partial dentures and implants. Next month members of the guild are visiting the Hop Pocket Craft Centre in Bishops Frome, Herefordshire. Members will meet at Powick Parish Hall on Tuesday, June 12 at 1.30pm to share cars. The Hop Pocket shopping area and tea room are undercover so weather will not be a problem.
