FIRST of all this week, I must mention the Pre-School Auction of Promises held last week at the Pheasant, it was a huge success.

Next is the Edwardian afternoon tea, which has been organised to celebrate Elgar's 150th Birthday, by the Carvers at Bidderscroft tomorrow afternoon (Saturday). This promises to be a truly wonderful entertaining afternoon (further details from the Carvers). Saturday also sees a plant sale at the village hall from 9.30am-11.30am.

On Sunday there will be a great variety of activities in the village. A car boot sale at the recreation ground starts at noon and Elgar will be commemorated by a Mass at 10.30am at St. Wulstan's. This will be attended by the Archbishop of Birmingham, Vincent Nicholls.

The last thing to mention this week is the activities of the Cordery Club over the next few meetings: June 7 sees an outing to the Severn Valley Railway, the coach leaves Welland at 10am, then June 21 brings a talk by Dr Bryan Smith on his recent visit to Vietnam from 2.30pm-4.30pm, on July 5 there is a River boat trip from Tewkesbury, on July 19, there is the annual meeting then September 6 sees the club's 40th birthday tea. Further information for all these events is available from the leader, Mrs Margaret Smith, on 01684 833252.
