TIM Perry was named as the new mayor of Upton as the town council held its annual general meeting on Tuesday.
He replaces John Thompson, who has returned to the ranks after completing his two-year spell as mayor.
Paul Thomas has now replaced Coun Perry as deputy mayor, with both appointments made unanimously.
Coun Perry said he was honoured to accept the role, and paid tribute to his predecessor and fellow councillors for their work. "It is thanks to every member that this is a great council to be involved in," he said. "I'm sure if we continue as we have done then we can keep going from strength to strength."
Long-serving councillor Eric White led the thanks to Coun Thompson for his work as mayor.
"We have had a very difficult last six months, and I think you have steered this council very wisely throughout," he said.
