OVER the last few years Malvern Priory Bowling Club, which is physically linked closely to Priory Park, has suffered minor acts of vandalism.
Predictably, this occurs at weekends and bank holidays when youths and young adults are out and about. In the last two years the frequency and severity of these acts have increased.
The club has reported many incidents to the police and have frequent contact with community officers. The latest initiative by the council is to set up another working party. Does this actually mean that they really don't know what to do?
There has been a more visible presence of community officers recently but are they employed at predictable times of trouble? Were police or community officers around on the Bank Holiday?
How many local people saw the football match on our bowling green and ignored it?
How many saw it and rang the police?
How many thought if I ring nothing will be done because the West Mercia call centre has no idea what and where I'm talking about.
How many saw and just walked by?
This crime does not go unobserved because the football that shattered panes of glass across the whole clubhouse floor was left on the green and has been handed in to the police. I hope the owner will go and claim it.
A community only reaps what it deserves. If we pretend it is none of our business or are too scared to act then we will get what we deserve and this lack of respect will continue and get worse.
We can work with and involve the young but it does need respect and responsibility from both sides. We all have to live in our town together, or the future is bleak.
