I hope the successful Malvern councillors will at last sort out the traffic issues on Church Street, in Malvern.
Every morning I go down there, the street is jammed due to delivery lorries parked on double yellow lines near the traffic lights as there is nowhere else to park. This makes it very difficult for other lorries, buses and cars to get through and I have had to mount the pavement a number of times to make any progress - both illegal and dangerous.
I know there is a debate around making Church Street one-way or pedestrianised but can I make some suggestions to help alleviate the problem now?
1. Convert the Church Street parking spaces to loading/unloading spaces only from 8am to 1pm, with no deliveries allowed outside these times and reverting to car parking spaces after this time.
2. As some compensation for this loss of parking in the morning, change the the taxi rank outside the post office to evenings only as there is rarely a taxi using the rank during the day anyway. This would allow parking for three to four cars.
3. Some sort of weight restriction for vehicles entering Church Street. It is clear a lot of lorries and large vans are using it as a shortcut to the Spring Lane trading estates and would be better routed via Worcester Road and the bypass.
But we need some longer term solution decided now, so come on councillors, sort it out.
