A MULTI-talented singing star from Malvern is taking the music world by storm at the tender age of 14.

Georgia Francis, of Sherrards Green Road, started singing lessons at the age of 12, and since then, has won numerous competitions right across the Midlands.

Her latest triumph is winning the Light Opera Open Class, at Cheltenham Music Festival, which was open to singers of all ages.

This win adds to Georgia's extensive list of competition successes, including first places in Oxford, Worcester and Bath.

She also won the Dyson Perrins High School talent contest, in 2005 and the under 14 category of BBC Hereford & Worcester's Pop Icon, last year.

No stranger to performing to a crowd, Georgia has starred in various stage productions, including solo parts in Jekyll and Hyde, in Ross-On Wye, West Side Story, in Cirencester, The Little Sweep, for the Longborough Opera, and The Magic Flute, at Stroud and Cheltenham Playhouse.

She has just secured the lead role in a production of The Secret Garden, at Cirencester, in August.

"I always wanted to sing when I was little, I really enjoy it," said Georgia, who is currently home-tutored.

"I used to get nervous before I went on stage, but now I'm used to it."

Georgia's mother, Annette, said her daughter was a natural singer and she was very proud of her.

As well as singing, Georgia plays piano and violin to grade seven standard.

Last year, she saved up £100 from her daily paper-round, to record a CD of her favourite songs, and has already given out 300 copies to friends and family.

She hopes to secure a music scholarship, and eventually attend the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
