MALVERN’S famous Morgan Motor Company and the Morgan pub are among the local businesses which have signed up to take part in the Malvern Carnival procession next month.
The carnival on Saturday, July 13, is being staged by the organisers of last year's revived procession, which was a vital part of Malvern’s successful diamond jubilee celebrations.
Others taking part are Malvern Rotary Club, Wye Valley Brewery, QinetiQ, AT Bird, Guy Sterry and Ready Rent, plus a number of vintage and veteran cars.
Heading the procession is Miss Pearl and the Rough Diamonds, a rockabilly band.
Their music, inspired by Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Wanda Jackson, Elvis Presley, is set to bring a real 50s party vibe to the day.
David Habershon of the committee says there is still time for more townspeople to sign up. He said: “We’d like to see more entries, especially from schools, to make the procession a real success.”
The procession route has now been published. It will assemble on the Lower Wyche Road above Peachfield Common ready for its departure at noon.
It will make its way along the Wells Road into the town centre, and then go down Worcester Road, through Link Top, alongside the Link Common, to Malvern Link itself.
The procession will turn into Pickersleigh Avenue and make its way along Pickersleigh Road all the way to Barnards Green.
After reaching the Green, and visiting Poolbrook Road, it will return to the town centre up Church Street before finally going back to the Lower Wyche Road.
The event will be raising money for Home-start Malvern Hills.
And to boost the fund-raising, the carnival committee is also holding a masked ball on Saturday, July 20, at the Abbey Hotel.
Tickets for the ball are on sale at Just So, 92 Barnards Green Road, or 01684 566866.
Information about the carnival and the ball can be found at malverncarnival.org.
