I COULD not agree more with Adrian Bee when he commented that walkers have rights to walk on public footpaths, but with rights come responsibilities. As a volunteer helper on the charity clay pigeon shoot Mr Bee refers to, I would point out there is no footpath between the two stiles – as the OS map clearly shows.
I am sure that if Mr Bee has a front and back gate he would not see the space between as public access!
This charity shoot has been held each year for the last 30 years and this year raised £842 for the air ambulance, St Richard’s Hospice and local parish church in Storridge.
Approximately 50 people, both local and from afar, came to shoot and the event was set up by a team of over 15 community-spirited volunteer helpers on the Saturday and the Sunday.
Mr Bee should reflect on this, especially if he ever needs assistance from any of the aforementioned charities.
I suggest Mr Bee either buys an OS map or learns how to read one so that he can by all means exercise his rights, but with responsibility as I for one do not want to see the countryside littered with large signs telling walkers which way to go or barbedwire fences delineating every footpath because some people cannot exercise their rights responsibly.
