A NEW role at the helm of local policing is also a homecoming for Malvern’s new police inspector.
Insp Steph Brighton started her police career as a response officer in the town back in 1994.
Now back on the beat in Malvern after a 20-year career that has seen her promoted through the rank of sergeant to become an inspector, she already has a firm idea of the town’s needs and the direction she wants to take its policing.
“I am delighted to have returned and regard it as a privilege to be able to lead local policing in the area,”
she said.
“I’ve lived in the Malvern Hills area since I joined the police and it’s a pleasure to see my two children growing up in the community.
“So, while I am new to the post, I am very familiar with the issues and the needs of the area. It’s more of a diverse community than many would realise, with some areas with the highest need in the region as well as more affluent neighbourhoods.”
Insp Brighton is now in charge of the nine Safer Neighbourhood Teams in the Malvern Hills.
“Our priorities continue to be decided by local residents through local engagement and include anti-social behaviour and reducing fear of crime. We will strive to meet the needs of our communities,” she said.
“There are many challenges ahead: many residents will be aware of the necessary changes planned across the force as part of the need to make financial savings and our alliance with Warwickshire Police.
“I will lead the safer neighbourhood teams through this period of change.”
Insp Brighton has replaced Insp Jane Francis, who is now duty inspector in Worcester after two years serving Malvern Hills.
