LAST week saw an excellent turnout assemble at Holdfast on the Severn for the first round of this seasons MUAA winter league, due to the mild weather and the river being in good condition. However, most anglers struggled for bites.
Dave Green once again proved to be the man to beat when targetting big fish. Drawn on peg 19 Dave used his knowledge of the venue to land a nice barbel weighing 7-8-0 and three chub on feeder tactics. His winning haul totalled 10-2-0 and was well ahead of the second placed angler who was last year's league winner Chris Loveridge.
Chris was drawn on peg 1 and targeted bream on the feeder, the bream did not feed but Chris managed a few small roach for a weight of 2-1-0 for a solid start to this season's campaign.
Ian Goddard drawn on peg 7, did manage to find a couple of skimmers, but they only tipped the scales at 1-9-0, good enough for third place on the day though.
The next contest is the second round of the Winter league, on the pool at Mathon on Sunday, November 26, draw 9.30am, fish 10-2pm.
