A LONG-standing member of the Worcester and Malvern group of the Royal Society for the Preservation of Birds has had his service to the charity recognised.
At the group’s Christmas meeting at Powick Village Hall, Anna Keen, the RSPB’s Midland region’s volunteer development officer, presented Garth Lowe with an award in recognition of his 20 years as an RSPB volunteer.
Mr Lowe led the group for 17 years, as well as serving as its farmer alliance coordinator and giving talks to schools and organisations and leading walks, among other roles.
Group leader Frances Evans presented Mrs Keen with a cheque for £3,046, the result of the group’s annual sponsored birdwatch.
Mrs Keen said it was a superb achievement and the money would go towards the development of Middleton Lakes RSPB reserve near Tamworth.
