A RECENT correspondent on this subject said that they were told that boxes for the kerbside collection of glass were too expensive.
Does this mean that wheelie bins are cheaper? I don’t believe it. They further said that £16,000 had been spent on a survey of residents to discover if they were in favour of wheelie bins.
How and when was this survey carried out?
From my own point of view, when I asked for the current costs of refuse collections, and projected costs and savings, the reply read like something Sir Humphrey out of Yes, Minister would have given.
I was in fact, given current costs, but was told that “future costs were subject to strict confidentiality requirements”. Reading between the lines suggests to me the decisions were being taken by officers, and not the elected representatives.
