I HAD no immediate personal problems with the idea of wheelie bins – we do have a long uneven drive up hill, but we would be at the moment able to push one up it, although I am sure it would be a problem for a lot of people, and us when we are older.
We would be happy to do so as long as we can if it helped the environment.
But having read the letter from Sarah Rouse in last week’s Malvern Gazette, I am very opposed to the idea.
How can anything be usefully recycled if it is mixed up with noncompatible items?
I am sure most people want recycling to be useful – what is the point otherwise?
Is it really true that unless we chuck everything into a recycling wheelie bin – broken glass, tins, paper, we cannot have a weekly rubbish collection?
It beggars belief the best way to recycle things is to mix them up with broken glass.
Why can we not continue with glass recycling as we do at local collection points – or, if it has to be outside our houses, surely we could just put the glass separately out?
