THIS week Christians have been celebrating the Feast of the Epiphany.
It’s the time when we remember the coming of the wise men – or magi – to visit the infant Jesus.
Scenes of the Nativity commonly depict the magi bringing their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh: gold for a king, frankincense for a priest, and myrrh for embalming the body of the one who was to give His life for the sins of the whole world.
What gift might Jesus want us to bring Him today? In her Christmas Day message, the Queen gave us a wonderful answer to that question.
She quoted the last verse of a famous carol written by Christina Rossetti (1830-94): What can I give Him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd I would bring a lamb; if I were a wise man I would do my part; yet what I can I give Him – give my heart.
