ORGANISERS of the annual well-dressing event are inviting potential participants to share their ideas at a public meeting being held to choose a theme for this year’s event.

The well-dressing has been organised by Malvern Spa Association since 1998, and has grown increasingly popular, with some 40 of the springs, fountains and other water features round the hills being decorated in recent years.

The forthcoming meeting, on Monday, January 21, is in the Lyttelton Rooms, Church Street, at 7.30pm and admission is £3.

Pictures of past well-dressings will be shown and, after discussion, the theme for 2013 will be chosen.

Lionel Shorstone, of the association, said: “In recent years we’ve had lots of events, public occasions and anniversaries to inspire us.

“Last year, for instance, we obviously had the Queen's diamond jubilee and the Olympics, and it was also the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic and the death of Scott of the Antarctic, and all of these were inspirations to our well dressers.

“The year before that, the royal wedding gave us our theme of togetherness.

“But this year, there is nothing quite so obvious and that leaves our well-dressers free to exercise their imaginations and come up with a theme.

“So all will be welcome at the meeting and we look forward to hearing their ideas.”

The event takes part over the May Day weekend, and well-dressers compete for gold, silver and bronze awards in categories for adults and children, with a special chairman's cup also being awarded.
