BROMYARD’S Conquest Theatre will celebrate its 21st anniversary at its current site this weekend with a family variety show.
A cast of local talent will join together to pay tribute to the theatre, including the Amazing Morgan, nine-year-old professional magician Morgan Price, from Much Marcle.
The 150-seater venue in Tenbury Road has provided a wide range of entertainment for thousands of people during its 21 years there and has welcomed famous names such as Honor Blackman, Pam Ayers and Corin Redgrave.
The show’s producer Mike Cresswell said: “I am pleased to have been associated with the Conquest Theatre over the past 21 years and to be able to produce the Variety Spectacular as part of the anniversary celebrations.
“We have gathered a cast of local talent, many of whom have been associated with the theatre in the past and who are giving their time to help raise funds towards its continued success.
“We are also privileged that the Amazing Morgan has accepted our invitation to take part in the show and will be presenting her amazing magic.”
The Conquest moved to its present site from the ‘green tin shed’ in Old Road and took three years to convert. The success of this venture, good audiences and the building beginning to leak led the trustees to look at the idea of a new purpose-built theatre and so fund-raising started.
After hearing about the idea, Clive Richards offered a substantial grant towards the building which enabled the work to start.
The theatre does not receive any local council funding and is completely run by volunteers.
