MANY people wrongly accredit the anthem Jerusalem to Edward Elgar; it was, as we know written by William Blake in 1808 as a short poem. The mistake is understandable as the line’ in a green and pleasant land’ does conjure up the Malvern Hills.
If we can be sure of anything it is that both Elgar and Blake would be turning in their graves if they knew that green and pleasant land would be polluted by ghastly green and not so pleasant plastic wheelie bins.
For us? No thanks.
