THE leader of the council seeks to reverse at its meeting on December 10 the decision not to adopt the South Worcestershire Development Plan in its present form.
There is mention that councillors did not realise that rejection by Malvern might jeopardise the whole plan and hints that councillors may risk personal liability if another partner in the plan decides to sue the council.
This insults the intelligence of councillors and is misleading because the barrister employed by the council confirmed there was no risk of liability.
The cynical process adopted by Councillor Hughes is a blot on democracy – a vote to reverse its previous decision will greatly tarnish the council’s reputation.
Our councillors must stand up for the principles by which they were elected.
We should urge them to stand firm in the face of the bullying tactics of the council leader who seems intent on pushing through at any cost a plan which in its current form will disfigure our beautiful area.
